Cliff Top House Slate Roofing, Croyde
Above Baggy Point, on one of North Devon's most exposed stretches of coast, this clifftop house demanded roofing and lead detailing built to take a battering and still look effortless.
Our work included slate roofing and slate hanging to the property, working in SSQ Riverstone slate for its durability and its quiet, weathered character against the coastal backdrop, as part of the wider renovation and extension overseen by Jonathan Rhind Architects.
The detailing throughout was specified for a genuinely hostile, salt-laden environment. Lead reveals were formed around every window opening, lead fascias run cleanly along the roofline, and central gutters and flat roof sections were detailed to shed water fast and stay watertight through the worst of the Atlantic weather. Every junction was built with the same discipline — the kind of detailing that either holds for decades in a setting like this, or fails within a single winter.
The quality of that work was recognised industry-wide: the project was shortlisted as a finalist in the Natural Slate Roofing category at the NFRC National Roofing Awards.
